DRAG CHAIN CONVEYORS

Drag chain conveyors represent a unique category of conveyor systems, distinct from other types, such as belt conveyors. While traditional belt conveyors transport products by moving with them, drag chain conveyors operate on a different principle; they effectively drag the product along a fixed bed, ensuring secure handling.

This innovative mechanism is accomplished by utilising chains. These chains are driven by a common shaft, which is connected to a geared motor unit. The entire system is encased within an enclosed framework, ensuring safe and efficient operation. The operational principle of this system is straightforward yet effective. Products are introduced into the conveyor via an input chute. Once inside, scraper bars attached to the twin-chain arrangement drag the materials along the length of the conveyor, facilitating smooth and controlled transportation.

Our drag chain conveyors are specifically designed to efficiently move various materials, including powder products, grains, and even swarf generated from automated milling machines. They are particularly advantageous for handling small products where spillage poses a significant concern. The paddles operate within a three-sided chute, which is designed to eliminate any escape points for the product, thereby minimising losses. The financial implications of losing product during transport can be substantial, making this feature critical for operational efficiency.

Additionally, our drag chain conveyors offer the flexibility to drop products off at multiple locations along the conveyor path. This is achieved by incorporating strategically placed openings at designated drop-off points. We enhance this functionality with pneumatically operated sliding doors; when a door is opened, it allows the product to fall through the designated hole.  Conversely, when the door is closed, the product can continue to be dragged over it to the next available drop-off point.

Central Conveyors can manufacture frameworks using various materials to suit specific environmental conditions. Common options include mild steel for general applications, 304 stainless steel for enhanced corrosion resistance, and 316 stainless steel for superior durability in harsh or corrosive environments. Drag chain conveyors offer extensive customisation options to accommodate various industrial needs. A wide range of sprockets and chains is available, allowing for adaptation to different payload requirements.
