LINE SHAFT CONVEYORS

These conveyors are a form of driven roller conveyor, commonly referred to as zero friction roller conveyors. Unlike traditional systems where chains on sprockets power rollers, these innovative conveyors utilise a 5mm diameter polyurethane drive mechanism. They are designed to accommodate a maximum load of 50 kg, which limits their application to lighter-duty tasks.

A single shaft runs below the rollers, spanning the length of the conveyor. Fitted to the shaft are a number of spools attached to each roller via a polyurethane belt. When the powered shaft rotates, it turns the belt connected to the roller, making it turn. The rotating roller moves the product along the conveyor, powered by a motor unit.

Line shaft conveyors are commonly employed in the efficient movement of boxes and totes. A prime example of their application can be observed in online grocery retailers that utilise plastic totes for order picking. In this process, shopping bags are placed within the totes, and the line shaft conveyor directs these totes to the pickers, who then place the ordered products into the bags.

However, it is important to note that line shaft conveyors are versatile; they are not limited to just totes. Similar to roller conveyors, they can transport any item with a flat base. This includes cardboard boxes, whether filled with products or empty, as well as individual products, provided they possess a flat base and do not exceed the weight limit of 50 kg.

Line shaft conveyors come in both straight and bend sections and operate with low noise levels. Manufactured from mild steel, the powder-coated side frames can be made of stainless steel for food applications, whilst the conveyor rollers come with a galvanised finish.

Line shaft conveyor systems are suitable for situations where tight and numerous bends are required. They are commonly used in environments such as warehouses to transport a variety of boxes and are also found in manufacturing situations where product assembly is required.
